Lisbon is a city full of secrets. One of the most authentic is the Santa Catarina neighbourhood, in the heart of historic Lisbon. Also called Bica, this neighbourhood is only 5 minutes walk from Bairro Alto and Chiado. The main attractions are the Bica Elevator and the Miradouro do Adamastor (viewing point), but you will find a lot of other surprises such as Patio das Parreiras which you won’t find in any tourist guide but is really worth a visit. Santa Catarina's residents have the opportunity to visit the excellent local market – Mercado da Ribeira full of fresh fruit, vegetables and fish. From Miradouro do Adamastor in the heart of the neighbourhood, you can enjoy magnificent views of Lisbon and the Tagus.

From Santa Catarina, you can visit every part of Lisbon without a car. The no. 28 tram to Alfama, the no. 25 to the Basilica da Estrela and the no. 15 to Belém all pass through the neighbourhood. The Cais do Sodre and Chiado metro stations are located within a short walking distance..From Cais do Sodre you can take the inexpensive ferry boat to Cacilhas (a 7 minute trip) where you can have delicious grilled fish or take the train to Cascais. Also within walking distance is Rossio train station from where you can catch trains to Sintra.
The Casa do Bairro B&B and associated apartments are located in the heart of this fascinating neighbourhood, making them an ideal location for your stay in Lisbon
